After a couple of months in the App Store, we’re updating Your Ghost Stories to address a few issues and opportunities suggested by user feedback. The updates include the ability to turn on and off the creaking door sound in the navigation menu, showing a story marked as read, and a reminder to “rate this app”, which we totally dig! Your feedback rocks and help us get the features you guys want incorporated into future versions of Your Ghost Stories.

Additionally and as a side note, development is getting started for an Android and Windows Phone versions of Your Ghost Stories, with a first quarter 2012 target release. We’ll keep you updated on development.

Thanks again for helping us make Your Ghost Stories and solid app, which we will continue to improve.

Have a great Holiday Season!

Wow! It finally feels good to have successfully submitted an app to the App Store. As this was the first iPhone app I have created, it will hold a special place in my heart.

I want to think the guys Ruck and Chard for letting me in on this exciting ride. I also want to think Stu of CampRecipes.com to allowing us to partner up and use the wonderful camp recipes he has gathered.

Here are a few after thoughs about the whole iPhone development process:

If Apple can make it complicated, they’ve certainly can made it more complicated.

Read the Apple development documentation carefully to make sure you dot your i’s and cross your t’s.

Don’t use a name for the product, then delete the product during the submittal process…you will be hosed!

Lastly, make it fun!

The App Sack Team pulled it off! Our first standalone app, Camp Recipes, is approved and live in the App Store! Hey no lie, it’s been fun and tedious at times getting everything and everyone rounded up and together to get the app out-the-door. Regardless, we have a solid app that does what it’s advertised to do, which is get some great camping recipes into the hands of backpackers, campers, and others while they’re enjoying the great outdoors.

So, back to getting Camp Recipes submitted to the App Store. It didn’t turn out anything like some of the stuff I’ve been reading around the web, with a few app reviews taking up to a couple of months. Now granted our app isn’t as complex and involved as some, and possibly the reason we got through fairly fast and painlessly. Honestly I think it’s because TC is a beast at pushing the bits around in Xcode. It’s true… I do! Anyway, after clicking submit around 8:00 P.M. on Monday night, only two days later, Wednesday evening TC got word from Apple that we were approved and in the App Store. Maybe it’s beginners luck and we’ll know soon enough with more apps on the way, but the process was way less painful than we were expecting. Thank you Apple!

Next up… the CampSack as well as getting CampRecipes ready for Android and Window Phone 7. Hope your year is off to a great start and wish us luck in our app building adventures!

It’s been crazy around here the last couple of weeks from finalizing contracts to tweaking graphics and hammering out code. But alas, we are finally close to submitting our first app to the App Store. And honestly, although we never thought we’d be building individual apps, it’s been a great introduction to the app development process.

Well, maybe more of a slap in the face or wakeup call. In any case, if you’re not already aware, there’s a lot to building apps! Ultimately what was the result of necessity, ended up being an awesome standalone app and the missing link in our first AppSack, the CampSack. Sweet deal all around!

Anyway, the next couple weeks while Apple is taking a break from the flood of apps they are probably getting worked with for the pre-Holiday Season rush, Ruck and I will be leaning on Todd to work his coding wizardry to put the finishing touches on CampRecipes for an App Store submittal sometime around the first of the year. It should be exciting around here for sure!

We’ll talk again soon and I’ll let you know how the App Store submittal process played out as well as more details on the upcoming CampSack app–it’s going to be great one with some amazing developers. So, until then, Have a Great Holiday Season from The AppSack Team!
